Dave Hammer from Apraxia Kids in Pittsburgh, PA and Nancy Kaufman from the Kaufman Speech Center in West Bloomfield, MI are excited to co-present a FREE 3-hour talk.  This is the first time these two nationally and internationally recognized master therapists in childhood apraxia and related disorders will be presenting together.  The session will be geared toward parents from the Detroit area and students from Wayne State University bringing therapists and families together to build a community of support.

Dave Hammer is the Vice President of Programming for Apraxia Kids.  Prior to his position, Dave had 35 years of pediatric clinical experience at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA with specialty interests in childhood apraxia of speech, speech sound disorders, and childhood/adolescent stuttering.  He has been invited to present over 150 workshops on childhood apraxia, speech sound disorders and stuttering throughout the United States, Canada, and Australia.  Dave was a member of the ASHA AdHoc committee on childhood apraxia of speech.  He has been involved in the production of a number of apraxia-related DVD's and an innovative children's CD.  Dave was instrumental in the development of a unique preventative stuttering treatment approach using a wireless microphone feedback system to teach critical parental strategies.  Dave is known for his practical and therapy-rich presentations.


Nancy Kaufman, MA, CCC-SLP,

Nancy Kaufman

Nancy Kaufman  is a speech-language pathologist, renowned expert in childhood apraxia of speech (CAS), and the owner/director of the Kaufman Children's Center, Sensory-Motor, & Social Connections, Inc. in West Bloomfield, Michigan.  Since 1979, she has dedicated herself to establishing the Kaufman Speech to Language Protocol (K-SLP), a treatment approach to help children become vocal communicators. Families from around the country and the world travel to the KCC to participate in intensive specialized therapy programs.  Nancy presents nationally and internationally on the subject of CAS and other speech-sound disorders.  Nancy was a member of the Apraxia Kids Professional Advisory Council for 10 years and currently serves on the board of visitors of the Merrill Palmer Skillman Institute for Child and Family Development at Wayne State University.  She is also a speech-language consultant for the Parish School and Carruth Center in Houston, Texas Suburban Speech Center in Short Hills, New Jersey.  Nancy has been recognized by the Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Assocation, as well as received outstanding alumni awards from Michigan State and Wayne State Universities.
